Air France KLM Corporate SAF Program
SAF is one of the keys to reducing our carbon footprint, but it is not yet available on a large scale. SAF stands for ‘Sustainable Aviation Fuel’, the term our industry uses to describe a better alternative to regular aviation fuel.
Made from non-fossil sources like used cooking oil, SAF blends perfectly with conventional jet fuel and fits all aircraft engines without impacting current operations. Although SAF emits the same amount of CO₂ during flight, its total CO₂ impact is at least 65% lower over the entire lifecycle (from production to burning).
We only buy SAF produced from raw materials that do not compete with food or animal feed production and have a minimal impact on biodiversity. All SAF we purchase meets criteria issued by the European Union (ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation) and those of the Roundtable of Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB).
Let’s give wings to SAF together
SAF is not yet available on a large scale. In 2024, SAF production volumes reached 1 million tonnes (1.3 billion litres), double the 0.5 million tonnes (600 million litres) produced in 2023. SAF accounted for 0.3% of global jet fuel production and 11% of global renewable fuel. We need your support to make a greater impact on aviation’s overall carbon emissions.
Join the Air France KLM Corporate SAF Program and contribute to the wider adoption of SAF. Only together can we stimulate demand, lower prices, and improve our industry’s impact on the climate. We still have a long way to go to truly lower the impact of flying, but with your support we can turn ambition into action. Let’s join forces and give wings to SAF together.
