Community of Doctors on Board
Want to volunteer?
Although we hope it never happens, an on board medical emergency does unfortunately occur sometimes. Our crew is trained to respond. However, the help of a medical doctor can be important. Being part of the Community of Doctors on Board means that our crew can call on you directly and discreetly if a medical emergency occurs during your flight. We appreciate your help and will credit 6,000 Miles to your Flying Blue account once your membership is confirmed.
How to sign up
To sign up, you need to have a Flying Blue account. If you already have a Flying Blue account and are interested in joining the programme, you can go ahead and fill out the registration form. Don’t forget to include your Flying Blue number!
Send the completed document, along with your BIG number or your diploma or medical license to the e-mail address shown on the form. Once we’ve validated your BIG registration, you’ll receive your welcome package. This welcome package includes the one-time 6000 Miles bonus, an additional thank-you gift, and information about the programme and training.
Would you like to join, but you don’t have a Flying Blue account yet?
Training for doctors
What can you, as a doctor, do during a medical emergency on board? What kind of medical equipment do we carry on board, and how do we communicate on board and with our ground staff during a medical emergency? During our one-day training on aviation medicine and medical options aboard an aircraft, we will teach you on what you can expect! This accredited and optional training is organized by KLM Health Services.
Conditions
The programme is voluntary. You can cancel your membership at any time.
We will arrange your liability insurance if we need your help on board. Our liability insurance will cover you on top of any professional insurance you may already have.
You will receive a voucher or additional Miles to thank you for your help on board.

Due to legal and liability aspects, the community is currently only accessible to doctors with a medical degree.
Yes. When you sign up, you automatically sign up to become a member of the community for both KLM and Air France.
If your registration has expired, you will be removed from the BIG register. Dutch law dictates that you must re-register every 5 years. You will be removed from the Community of Doctors on Board if you are no longer registered. Once you have re-registered, you can send us an e-mail to sign up for the community again.
On board our aircraft, by virtue of the nationality principle, Dutch law applies anywhere in the world and as long as the aircraft doors are closed. We will arrange your liability insurance in case we need your help on board. Our liability insurance will cover you on top of any professional insurance you may already have. However, we advise that you make sure that your professional insurance covers any legal assistance and/or costs that may result from a medical intervention on board, even if there would be no other additional insurance in place from our side.
